Talking the Issues that Matter: Health and Environment
Libertarians love to talk about taxes, privacy, liberty, and property, but what about the other issues at the top of the headlines today?
While LP Atlanta does not have formal policy positions on health care and the environment since these issues are controlled at the state and federal levels, libertarians have some very important perspectives drawn from the best research in economics and public policy. We want to share some resources with you so you'll understand where we're coming from.
Health Care:
Everyone knows that our system needs reform -- costs continue to climb and the number of uninsured continues to grow. The Cato Institute has dedicated an entire website to discussing the options for free market healthcare reform called http://healthcare.cato.org/.
This option for reform addresses the bad things about our system while preserving the many good things we take for granted -- choice, quality, and an abundance of doctors and hospitals.
Environment:
Believe it or not, most libertarians take responsibility for their environmental impact and don't believe that big corporations should be able to do whatever they want to the earth at everyone else's expense.
Many libertarians are skeptical about the science behind global warming, and rightfully so -- but this doesn't mean that they don't have great ideas about how to conserve, reduce pollution, and manage our natural resources. Check it out more at http://gppf.org/default.asp?pt=news&RT=6.
